Laura Meikle Koch Memorial Legacy Foundation
West Chester PA — To honor the memory of Laura Meikle Koch, The La Foundation – Laura Meikle Koch Memorial Legacy Foundation, has been established with the Chester County Community Foundation. Created as a lasting tribute to commemorate La’s energy, compassion, and love of life, the Foundation will support grants made to charitable causes that help people afflicted with lung cancer and other forms of cancer. Grants will also support causes that were important to Laura, including soccer, athletics, animal welfare and scholarship awards to students at Henderson High School in West Chester, PA and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
A graduate of Henderson High School in West Chester, PA and Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, Laura passed away in June 2008 from lung cancer. She is survived by her husband, Steve Koch, Drexel’s associate director of athletics, whom she met at Drexel. Known as one of the greatest players in Drexel women’s soccer history, Laura left an outstanding legacy. She played for Drexel’s soccer team, the Dragons, from 1998 to 2001 and left as Drexel’s all-time leader in goals and points. Dan Simmons, associate athletic director of recreation, said, “I remember her at the end of her career. She was the type of person you wanted on a Drexel team. She was always full of energy and always smiling.” After graduating Drexel in 2002, Koch worked for the Veterinary Referral Center in Frazer, a 24-hour emergency care center, and loved to nurture animals.
The Chester County Community Foundation is a non-profit organization that encourages people from all walks of life to create permanent endowment funds for charity. Working together with its donors, the Community Foundaion makes grants to local non-profit agengies to meet the community’s charitable needs.
